About Platoon Leader. A remarkable memoir of small-unit leadership and the coming of age of a young soldier in combat in Vietnam.’ "Using a lean style and a sense of pacing drawn from the tautest of novels, McDonough has produced a gripping account of his first command, a U.S. platoon taking part in the ‘strategic hamlet’ program.

I highly recommend reading Platoon - Bravo Company after seeing the movie. The Book is the reality of the day to day Infantry experience while the Movie has to condense all into two hours. If your goal is to understand, spending time with both will add to your enjoyment as well as understanding of Vietnam Infantry operations/5(19).

Platoon Mass Market Paperback – November 1, by Dale A. Dye (Author)/5(9). The story of the siege is raw, gut wrenching and told with such conviction that you find it hard to put the book down. Most of Red platoon are well decribed by the author and you get to know them well, included in the book are pictures of the platoon members, it's almost the modern day equivalent of the siege at Khe Shan in South Vietnam in on a smaller scale, with US /5(K).

A very short book that gives a great first hand account of several battles from WWII and and gives great advice on leadership lessons from someone learning and developing (very quickly) as the war continues over several months/5. 21 rows  Most of the time, there will be 2 - 4 Marine Corps Boot Camp Platoon Books listed.

Platoon Leader was a great book to give you a concise glimpse into the reality of one young Army leader in Vietnam. Colonel James R. McDonough (Retired) is an impecable example for future (and current) young lieutenants that are preparing to take command of their first platoons/5.

The platoon leader (PL) – platoon sergeant (PSG) leadership team is a unique and influential pair of roles that exist in the Army. I knew that there is a movie called "Platoon" based on the Vietnam War and decided to give the novel a try.

The novel has been written by Dale A. Dye, a Vietnem veteran himself, and is based on the screenplay by Oliver Stone/5. Is "Platoon" based on a book. Platoon is based on a screenplay by director Oliver Stone. That screenplay was actually based on Stone's earlier screenplay, Break, a semi-autobiographical account of his experiences and people he knew in Vietnam.

It combines the grit and detail of The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, with the take-you-there and grab your heart memoir style of Angela's Ashes.

Sean Pernell tells his story without sparing himself from the difficulty of remembering the hardships, the losses, and the shining moments that can never /5(K). Platoon Leader is a wonderful book that could serve as somewhat of a text book in Command and Control of men in combat.

I am sure Outlaw Platoon will go down as one of the greatest books on Operation Enduring Freedom, among Black Hawk Down, Lone Survivor, and Robert's Ridge. Parnell is a truly gifted writer, this book shows it, and Bruning has done a stellar job as usual/5. Just some information for you Marines that didn't know.
